This year, we will see the introduction of the new Energy Certificates for new build housing in England and Wales. These certificates will take the form of an A to G rating style similar to those found on white goods for sale today.
The image above shows a typical energy monitor that allows a home user to first monitor energy usage, and then implement activities via their own initiative to reduce their energy demand. It can be very easily installed, without the need for technical expertise.
The portable monitor displays home energy use at a glance, displaying both the power being consumed and its associated cost. While the homes we construct today are much more energy efficient than ever before, lifestyles can still impact significantly on energy use.
Now these types of monitoring products can highlight the issue, and allow home owners to ‘see’ the reductions that they may choose to make through different behaviour – making real savings – and helping to make a contribution to environmental sustainability.
